As Artistic Director of 'Candlewasters', I worked with a team to bring short submitted scripts to life from budding new playwrights from Edinburgh. In the two years I was artistic director we performed two shows in a fully working theatre with extensive tech and set. My role involved recruiting a production team, advertising auditions and casting calls, styling the show, organising workshops and directors, reading, selecting and offering feedback on scripts and ultimately curating the evening of performance itself. I loved the team I worked with, learning extensively about theatre management and performance. Most importantly I have learnt how to 'sell' theatre to an audience. All six shows under my artistic directorship over a two-year tenure sold out. Working so intensely on Candlewasters has equipped me with the skills I need to set up my own theatre company in the future, as well as refining my taste and style when it comes to curating, writing, directing and performing theatre.
